Our blog has talked extensively about the immigration reform that President Barack Obama and the Senate have spearheaded, but it seems that momentum and bipartisan support was lost when it went to the Senate. Even though the Senate passed a bill that was largely acceptable to both sides of the aisle, when the bill was sent to the U.S. House, it refused to take it up. This could mean many different things for the millions of immigrants who are waiting to file their applications for citizenship.
How do children go through the immigration process alone?
When people in Plainsboro think about immigrants arriving in America, a variety of different scenarios pop into their heads -- from families to single adults to college students, there are many different possibilities. What many people may not consider, however, is that there are a large number of children who come to the United States alone each year. For those that come legally, they may have some difficulty navigating the immigration process, but will largely be fine. For those that come illegally, they may be in deportation proceedings alone and without any legal help.
